Summary
NJRA designed a new Administration building for Salt Lake City School District, which will house a major portion of the school district departments and employees, as well as the district board room and professional development spaces. In the design, the existing school district administration building, surface parking, and parking structure will be replaced with new facilities on the same site. The new plan consists of a 2-level parking garage partially below grade (approx 113,000 SF total) and a 2-level office building above (approx 60,000 SF total).
Due to the tight site, which houses many district departments as well as off-street parking for employees and patrons, the design incorporates 2 outdoor plazas above portions of the parking garage, for employee use and well-being. Also, due the nature of the facility as well as the location in downtown Salt Lake City, security is a high priority for the district. The new parking structure and building are completely secure with programable entry options and glass barriers within the building which protect department employees while maintaining an open atmosphere. Natural light and views of the plazas infiltrate the interior spaces.
